Pilot Grants
The JHMRI Pilot Grant Program was established to allow investigators from a variety of disciplines to initiate new projects relevant to malaria.
Successful applications will focus on the development of new ideas which are likely to lead to future external funding. Pilot Grant preliminary and final results are presented at Malaria Friday Seminars and in poster sessions at the annual JHMRI symposium. Click to see all past and current pilot grants.

Applications for JHMRI Pilot Grants will be received by invitation only after favorable review of Letters of Intent. Application instructions and forms will be sent directly to the applicant at time of invitation.
Letter of Intent submissions should include the Principal Investigator's name, proposed project title, brief project summary, and intended start date. Past Pilot Grant awardees must complete the form below:
Past Pilot Grant Holders - Clarification Form
Pilot Grants cannot exceed $75,000 per year. Salary support for the lead PI and indirect costs are not allowed.

Scientific Progress Reports
- An Annual Progress Report is due 30 days prior to the ending date of the first year of funding. Second year funding is contingent upon timely submission and successful review of the progress report. Second year of funding is not automatic.
- A Final Progress Report is due two months after the award ends. One-year projects require only a final report.

Seminars/Presentations
- Regularly attend Malaria Friday Seminars.
- Present preliminary and final results in poster sessions at annual JHMRI conferences and/or present a Malaria Friday Seminar.
Publication Acknowledgements
- Publications and presentations must acknowledge the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute and the Bloomberg Philanthropies.
