Administrative
The overall aims of the Administrative Core are to provide governance and administration of the Center, to facilitate the training and development of RCMAR Scientists from under-represented backgrounds, and to advance the field of minority aging research on Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRD).
The Administrative Core provides essential leadership and structure for the JHAD-RCMAR and its mentoring, data collection, analysis, intervention, implementation, and dissemination activities, providing coordination and integration across the Cores and Pilot Studies, while maintaining communications with the RCMAR Coordinating Center at UCLA, other NIA Research Centers, and external funding and oversight entities. The Directors, Dr. George Rebok and Dr. Roland Thorpe are responsible for oversight of all Center activities, including quality control of research, protection of human research participants, supervision of administrative functions, fiscal oversight, interfacing with a Scientific Advisory Panel, and liaison with grant agencies and officials of Johns Hopkins University and participating Centers.
Administrative Core Aims
-
To provide governance and administration for the Center through
-
An environment that fosters excellence in ADRD-relevant research by coordinating the activities of inter- and trans-disciplinary interactions between investigators, RCMAR Scientists, and community stakeholders.
-
Engaging and developing new leaders and investigators from a variety of under-represented backgrounds in Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health at Johns Hopkins University.
-
Ensuring that all Cores contribute to the goals of the JHAD-RCMAR.
-
Monitoring the productivity and activities of the Center to ensure accountability and responsiveness to evolving scientific opportunities and public health needs.
-
-
To facilitate the training and development of RCMAR Scientists by working with the Research Education Component (REC), the Community-Liaison and Recruitment Core, and the Analysis Core to:
-
Provide administrative support for the pilot studies program in the REC.
-
Track the progress, fidelity, quality, and effectiveness of pilot studies and to hold investigators accountable for adherence to agreed-upon timelines.
-
Convene a Scientific Advisory Panel of distinguished investigators who have been selected based on their ability to challenge us to advance the field conceptually and methodologically as it concerns ADRD-relevant research, and to participate in the evaluation of the Cores and of the Center as a whole.
-
-
To advance the field of minority aging intervention research to reduce disparities in ADRD by:
-
Attracting and encouraging new investigators from under-represented backgrounds in ADRD-relevant research who will strive to prevent cognitive decline and reduce risk of ADRD in minority older adults.
-
Supporting and participating in national efforts to enhance training for diverse investigators pursuing ADRD-relevant research to prevent cognitive decline and reduce risk of ADRD in minority older adults.
-
Developing a national resource for ADRD-relevant research through publications, reports, presentations, and a discussion forum.
