Matthew L. Myers, JD

Following his roles as president (2000-2023) and executive vice president and general counsel (1996-2000) of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK)—a leading advocacy organization working to reduce tobacco use and its deadly consequences in the United States and around the world—Matthew L. Myers now serves as a strategic advisor to CTFK’s current president. Through strategic communications and policy advocacy campaigns, CTFK works to change public attitudes about tobacco and promote proven policies that are most effective at reducing tobacco use and save the most lives. Among the many noteworthy recognitions during his tenure as CTFK president, Mr. Myers was the recipient of the American Cancer Society’s Medal of Honor and the Harvard School of Public Health’s Julius B. Richmond Award, and CTFK itself was selected for the Luther Terry Award for contributions to global tobacco control. Previously, Mr. Myers served as co-chair (appointed by U.S. President Bill Clinton) of a commission on “Improving Economic Opportunity in Communities Dependent on Tobacco Production While Protecting Public Health.” He has also served as staff director of the Coalition on Smoking or Health, a legislative representative before Congress representing the public health community on major tobacco-related issues, and a senior staff of the Federal Trade Commission responsible for tobacco-related advertising and consumer protection matters. Mr. Myers earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, a B.A. from Tufts University, and has delivered numerous speeches on tobacco-related issues at major conferences, before Congressional and State Legislative bodies, and on television.
