How to Apply to the Bloomberg School
How to Apply
Thanks for your interest in our programs. Based on your selected program, you will apply through one of two application services. Please pay close attention to your program's application requirements and deadline. All programs require the equivalent of a four-year U.S. bachelor's degree.
Applicants to Doctoral, Master's, and Residencies utilize SOPHAS.
All Certificate and Bachelor's/Master's (JHU undergraduates only) applicants apply through SOPHAS Express. Certificate requirements and procedures vary by department, program, and student status. Please carefully review the appropriate certificate program page for requirements.
International Applicants are welcome at the School and should review additional instructions for applying from outside the U.S.
MPH applicants should carefully review the prerequisite requirements.
Application Requirements
All supporting documents (letters of recommendation, transcripts and/or credential evaluations, letters or recommendation, and test scores) must be official. Official documents are sent directly from one organizational authority to another. Documents and letters of recommendation that have been in the possession of the applicant or another person are not official.
In general, degree applicants will need to submit the following:
Deadlines
Application deadlines vary by department, degree program, and sometimes degree track. Know which one applies to you!
APPLY EARLY: SOPHAS requires four to six weeks to verify the application. Although we only require that the application be submitted by the deadline, we strongly encourage you to apply early enough for your application to also be completed with supporting documents (transcripts, test scores, credential evaluations, and letters of recommendation) by the deadline. Supporting documents are due two weeks after the deadline.
Applying to MPH combined-degree programs
MPH applicants should carefully review the prerequisite requirements. Applicants to MPH Dual Degree programs may have additional requirements, or special application instructions.
Bachelor's/Master's Degree Applicants
Undergraduate students at Johns Hopkins University that are already interested in pursuing advanced degrees can get a head start through the Bachelor's/Master's combined degree programs at the Bloomberg School.
Undergraduate students should formally apply for early admission by July 1 following their junior year of undergraduate coursework. Some programs allow for applicants in the senior year to apply by October 1.
Admitted students must complete their Bachelor's degree before formally enrolling in the Bloomberg School.
JHU undergraduates should confirm all eligibility requirements on the program pages and submit the SOPHAS Express application, making sure to select the appropriate combined degree option for your degree designation. Please send an official transcript to the Admissions Services Office at:
