Hosted by the Institute for Global Tobacco Control (IGTC), the monthly Innovations in Tobacco Control lecture series welcomes key researchers and experts to share ideas, present their work, and spark discussion.

Presented via Zoom webinar, this virtual event welcomes Belén Sáenz de Miera Juárez, PhD, for a lecture entitled, “Tobacco Industry Pricing Strategies Amidst Tax Adjustments in Mexico: Evidence from Commercial Data.”

The lecture will be followed by a brief moderated Q&A and a recording of the event will subsequently be posted to IGTC’s YouTube channel.

Belén Sáenz de Miera Juárez

Belén Sáenz de Miera Juárez, PhD

Belén Sáenz de Miera holds a master’s degree in Economics from the University of York and a PhD in Social Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She is currently a lecturer at the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur (UABCS) in northwestern Mexico. She has been a consultant for the World Bank and the World Health Organization, among other institutions, and collaborates on various research projects with the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico (INSP) and the Health Policy department at LSE. Her main areas of interest are public health and microeconometrics. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Tobacco Control and Health Economics. For fifteen years, she has participated in the design of proposals to adjust tobacco taxes in Mexico, including those that were approved in 2011 and 2020.
