Guidance for Families

Discussing job loss or insecurity with your children and loved ones can be challenging; using these steps will help you and your family thrive.

  1. Make A Plan

You might feel a lot of emotions and anxiety during this time, collect your thoughts and manage your own emotions before talking to your children and/or family.

  2. Be Mindful

Your children or family members will notice something is going on, let them know in a timely matter. When talking to children tailor what you say and how to their age.

  3. Set The Stage

Your family might have questions, pick a time and place that allows you, and them, to process the information.

  4. Working Together

Involve your children and family with any planning or next steps regarding this issue.

    1. Let your family know of your employment plans moving forward
    2. Inform family members of any changes to daily life that might occur during this time, and what will remain the same. Example: you might need to end your gym subscription, but kids will stay in soccer.
