Youth to Power: Empowering Adolescents and Youth for Life

Youth in Delhi, India participate in a group activity

While growth opportunities abound in urban settings, vulnerable and minority communities endure harsh lives, worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Youth to Power program provides educational and livelihood opportunities for marginalized children and youth. The program empowers out-of-school adolescent girls and youth by imparting functional literacy within safe learning spaces in the community, providing financial and mentoring support for re-entering the educational system and acquiring livelihood skills.

Located in a peri-urban resettlement area in Delhi, India, Youth to Power uses an inclusive gender-sensitive approach to provide a second chance at education to girls who had to drop out of school due to familial and financial circumstances. Youth are matched with in-person vocational training courses offering stable livelihood opportunities. As a pilot with potential to scale-up, this program has the power to provide enhanced human agency and a pathway to breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty.
