What does it take to build resilient health systems? Perspectives from Puerto Rico

Investment in health infrastructure is an investment in the economic health of countries. A resilient health system can be difficult to build and requires years of continued investment in people, ideas, education, and resources. Healthcare resiliency relies not only on investment in the healthcare system, but also in additional infrastructure needed to maintain these resources. In Puerto Rico the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017 exposed a number of issues with healthcare infrastructure that had been neglected over the past years, and Hurricane Fiona in 2022 once again shed a light on the poor decisions made during recovery of Maria between 2017-2022. Join Ana Rita Gonzalez as she discusses what a resilient health system means for Puerto Rico in the wake of two highly destructive and how investing in the health system of the Island can positively impact its long-term economic health.
