About the Event
Dr. Choi is a practicing physician from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). She has more than 40 years of professional experience as a medical doctor in DPRK and the Republic of Korea (ROK). Since 2013, Dr. Choi has been taking care of patients as a clinic director in Hyesung Clinic in Republic Korea. As a doctor from DPRK, she also serves as Vice President of the Advisory Council on Democratic Peace and Unification (Dec 2019 ~ Present). She has diverse experience in supporting medical services for DPRK defectors and multicultural families in Korea. She also serves as Vice President of UN PeaceKor and the UN Foundation for Peace and Prosperity of the Korean Peninsula since 2021. She is also a current guest professor at the Yonsei University of Medicine and teaches students about the medical status and health policy of the DPRK. She had several publications including The Perceptions and Experiences of North Korean Refugee Doctors Concerning the Burden of Non-Communicable Diseases in North Korea, Nigerian Journal of Clinical Practice (2019), and Challenges Experienced By North Korean Refugee Doctors in Acquiring a Medical License in South Korea: A Qualitative Analysis (2019).
