HPRIL - COVID-19

In March 2020, as the five funded agencies were just beginning to implement the innovation phase of their projects, the COVID-19 pandemic upended life in the United States and around the world. Over the next several weeks and months, WIC agencies across the country worked diligently to adapt their services to meet the needs of their vulnerable clients and remain a reliable community resource during an uncertain time.

The provision of federal waivers for certain WIC requirements (such as in-person certification), helped facilitate service delivery adaptation but also had implications for a number of the HPRIL local projects. All five agencies successfully adapted their projects during the months following the start of the pandemic, and HPRIL is confident that the findings from these projects will be just as—if not more—valuable given the changes WIC is experiencing.
