Her research efforts focus on improving care for patients with multiple chronic conditions and psychosocial needs. She has been awarded grants from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to elicit and incorporate patient priorities into care.

Dr. Wittink is also director of the Medicine in Psychiatry Unit at Strong Hospital In Rochester NY where she leads a multidisciplinary team of clinicians to care for patients with complex medical, behavioral and social needs. She is currently developing the Laboratory of Integration Services for Complex Needs, a.k.a, LISCN (ˈlɪs(ə)n), which will focus on providing solutions to the pragmatic challenges of working across disciplines and health systems.
