Sara Mamo, AuD, PhD

Sara Mamo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She obtained her Clinical Doctor of Audiology (AuD) and her PhD in Hearing Science from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Center on Aging and Health. She is currently funded by a NIDCD K23 award that aims to combine laboratory and applied research data to better understand the communication challenges of older adults with cognitive impairment and develop tailored communication rehabilitation programs for older adults in group care settings. Broadly, her research focuses on improving access to affordable hearing health care for older adults with untreated hearing loss, with a specific interest in developing strategies that address the unique communication and behavioral challenges faced by families experiencing dementia and age-related hearing loss.
