J. Nicholas Dionne-Odom, PhD, RN is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). His research interests are focused on developing and testing health coaching palliative care interventions to enhance support of family caregivers of rural/underserved persons with advanced illness living in the Deep South, particularly in cancer and heart failure. Dr. Dionne-Odom is currently PI of a 5-year NIH/NINR K99/R00 entitled An Upstream Palliative Care Intervention for Rural Family Caregivers where he is using mixed methods to develop and pilot test a palliative care health coaching intervention for family caregivers of persons newly-diagnosed with advanced incurable cancers. He is also interested in the role and application of cognitive psychology, naturalistic decision science theory, and technology solutions in the context of advanced illness family caregiving.
