Dr. Nynikka Palmer's primary appointment is in the Division of General Internal Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH), and she has secondary appointments in the Departments of Urology and Radiation Oncology. Dr. Palmer is also an Associate Member of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and an Associate Faculty of the Center for Vulnerable Populations at SFGH. The central theme of Dr. Palmer’s research is unraveling the mechanisms of cancer disparities – particularly in quality of care, finding actionable solutions, and seeing them put to use where they are most needed, with a special focus on vulnerable and medically underserved populations. Her current research focuses on improving patient-physician communication of prostate cancer treatment options and patient engagement, and integrates quantitative and qualitative methods (mixed methods) to better understand disparities, and develop and implement strategies to reduce the burden of prostate cancer among African American men.
