Important Guidance for ONSITE Students in Summer Institute 2022
Special Considerations for ONSITE Bloomberg School Summer Institute Courses
For the safety of the entire Bloomberg School community, all individuals who take courses onsite during the 2022 Summer Institutes must adhere to the same stringent health protocols that Bloomberg School graduate degree students are required to follow.
Coronavirus Protocols: You may view the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 protocols in full here: https://covidinfo.jhu.edu/
Registration: Since students attending onsite courses will need to comply with JHU COVID-19 protocols, we want to give them adequate time to prepare. For this reason, registration for all onsite courses will close two weeks before the first onsite class in that particular course. Similarly, it will not be possible for students to “add” onsite courses during add/drop period.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination with either Pfizer or Moderna vaccine: All individuals attending onsite Summer Institute classes will need to submit proof of acceptable COVID-19 vaccination at least one week prior to coming to campus. JHU accepts FDA-approved vaccines (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, J&J/Janssen) and vaccines administered outside the U.S. In addition, all Summer Institute onsite participants must receive an mRNA Covid booster (either Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna). For onsite participation in the Summer Institutes, it is NOT required to obtain or submit proof of an influenza vaccination.
Students may apply for medical or religious exceptions as per JHU existing policy.
- JHU degree students and students taking courses for academic credit should use the JHU Vaccine Management System to submit their proof of vaccination or to request an exception.
- Students taking courses not for credit must email their proof of vaccination or request for exemption to jhsph.cess@jhu.edu
It is important that all students coming to campus submit this documentation as soon as possible after registering for courses. If we have not received proof of vaccination or request for exemption 2 business days prior to the first onsite class, you will not be permitted to come on campus. If an online version of the same course exists, we will transfer your registration to the online version. If there is no online equivalent of the course, we will drop your registration.
Proof of negative COVID-19 test results prior to coming to campus: Coordinators for individual courses will be managing the collection of negative COVID-19 test results; all onsite students will receive information about the method for submitting their test results (either via email or in-person) prior to the first onsite class session. Any Summer Institute participants who test positive for COVID will be required to isolate and not come to campus.
Students will need to pay particular attention to timing, depending on which test they choose:
- Rapid antigen test results should be obtained not more than 24 hours before the first class session;
- PCR test results should be obtained not more than 72 hours before the first session.
- Students may choose the test they prefer, but individuals who have had a COVID-19 infection within 90 days of beginning the onsite course should use antigen tests, rather than PCR tests.
- JHU degree students may use the on-campus testing sites, but will need to obtain a copy of their test result and submit it prior to coming to campus for the course.
All students registered for onsite courses will receive information about the method for submitting their test results (either via email or in-person) from their Summer Institute coordinator prior to the first onsite class session. If you have questions about the process for submitting your COVID-19 test results, please contact the person listed below for more information.
