Students Working With Community Group Toward Zero Waste

Project reduces litter in Baltimore and results in beautiful works of art

Published

Master’s students in Megan Latshaws Applied Environmental Health Practice course recently participated in a clean-up exercise to launch a class project.

The group met with Melany Thomas, Executive Director of the South Baltimore Community Land Trust (SBCLT), and Jonathan Moore, Founder and CEO of RowdyOrb.it. They helped remove glass and litter from a parcel of land where SBCLT plans to build affordable housing. The ultimate goal for the students is to partner with SBCLT to develop a free, community-driven training tool that provides resources and tools for environmental health and justice work.

Glass from this and other clean-ups is turned into works of art by Baltimore Broken Glass. All proceeds from support SBCLT.
